Album Info:Quite possibly the smallest shortline railroad in Canada, the Grand Forks Railway (GFR) operates on 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) of former Canadian Pacific track in Grand Forks, British Columbia. Owned by International Forest Products (Interfor), the GFR is isolated from the rest of Canada as all rail traffic to and from Grand Forks is interchanged via Washington State with the Kettle Falls International Railway. The railroad was founded in 1992 when Burlington Northern ceased service to Grand Forks. Until very recently, the GFR relied on its lone EMD SW8 locomotive GFR 6703 which had been acquired from Canadian Pacific at the time of founding. In the past year or so, the SW8 has been parked and tarped over and a GATX Rail Locomotive Group SW1000 lease-locomotive GMTX 86 brought in as replacement, which had two years previously been working in Illinois for Aux Sable Liquid Products.
